"If you are attacked enclose your opponent into your heart"– Morihei Ueshiba
Aikido - the art of peace
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art and discipline for mental, physical and spiritual growth. Aikido is non-violent and strives to achieve harmony with others and oneself. The word Aikido means: path to spiritual harmony.
Ai - harmony
Ki - spirit energy or life energy
Do - path or way
Rather than fighting, Aikido challenges us to meet the energy of an attack with relaxation and a sense of center. Using fluid, spiral movements, we turn around an attacker’s energy so that it defeats itself.
Aikido promotes:
Mobility
Relaxation
Coordination
Self-confidence
Conflict resolution
and a mind free from fear and aggression
The dojo is the place we practice Aikido. It is a space full of concentration, energy, respect and peace. We practice traditional Japanese etiquette in order to create a good environment for practice.
